Court Orders Netflix to Refund Users Over Subscription Price Increases

Millions of Netflix subscribers in Italy could be eligible for refunds after a court ruled that some past price increases were not properly justified under consumer protection laws. Judges found that the platform’s pricing clauses lacked clear reasons for raising fees, making them invalid.

Consumer advocates say more than 5.4 million users may have been affected, with long-term Premium subscribers potentially entitled to larger refunds. Movimento Consumatori led the case, arguing that customers faced higher costs without enough transparency.

Netflix plans to appeal, so the final outcome may still change. The ruling has also renewed wider debate about transparency in digital subscriptions and automatic renewals.
