Common changes that can occur after age 70 and why it’s important to know about them early
After 70, the body doesn’t just age gradually—it changes more noticeably. Sleep becomes lighter, temperature harder to manage, digestion slower, and balance and strength less reliable. These shifts aren’t failure, but a natural transition.
Sleep often becomes fragmented due to lower melatonin and higher sensitivity to light and noise. Instead of forcing sleep, it helps to keep a steady routine, get morning sunlight, and limit screens at night.
Temperature regulation also weakens, making it easier to feel too hot or cold. Layering clothing and staying hydrated become more important. At the same time, digestion slows, with less stomach acid and nutrient absorption, leading to subtle issues like fullness or constipation.
These changes aren’t just “getting older”—they mean the body now needs a different kind of care.
