Your skin can sometimes reveal serious health issues early. A new dark spot that looks different from other marks on your skin may be more than normal aging or sun exposure—it could signal melanoma or hormonal changes. Watch for patches that are unusually dark, irregular, or spreading quickly.

Another warning sign is a sore that does not heal. Cuts or scabs that last for weeks, bleed easily, or keep returning may point to skin cancer, diabetes, or circulation problems. Moles that change shape, color, or size, or begin itching or bleeding, should also be checked. These signs don’t always mean cancer, but they should be evaluated by a dermatologist as soon as possible. Early detection can make a major difference.
