Speaker Johnson Denies Request For Jesse Jackson To Lie In Honor At Capitol
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has declined a request to allow the late Rev. Jesse Jackson to lie in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda after the civil rights leader’s death at age 84. Jackson’s family had sought the tribute following his passing after a lengthy illness, according to The Hill.
The Speaker cited longstanding precedent, which typically reserves the honor for former presidents and select government or military figures. Jackson is expected to be memorialized in Chicago in the coming weeks, his family said.
