Little-known mistakes and bloopers in The Rifleman
Classic Western The Rifleman (1958–1963) became famous for its father-son heart and frontier action, but sharp-eyed fans still spot amusing mistakes. Despite its 1880s setting, the show often slipped into mid-century style — including modern Wrangler jeans and 1950s hairstyles that clashed with the Old West backdrop.
Casting brought its own surprises. Star Chuck Connors was one of dozens considered for Lucas McCain, and later his real-life son briefly appeared in an episode. Johnny Crawford’s brother also guest-starred, creating a small family legacy within the series.
These quirks didn’t hurt the show’s legacy. Instead, they add charm to a beloved Western that continues to entertain generations of viewers.
