TRAGIC END for this legend. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing. When you find out who he is, you will cry
The death of Chuck Negron at 83 closes a chapter in rock history defined by soaring vocals, personal struggle, and redemption. Best known as a lead voice of Three Dog Night, Negron died February 2 at his home in Studio City, California, surrounded by family, his publicist confirmed. He had been battling heart failure and COPD in recent years.
Born June 8, 1942, in the Bronx, Negron grew up immersed in music, singing in doo-wop groups as a teenager and performing at the Apollo Theater before moving to California on a basketball scholarship. Music soon overtook athletics. In 1967, he co-founded Three Dog Night, helping shape one of the most successful vocal rock acts of the era with a style built on tight harmonies and carefully chosen songs.
Negron’s career was marked by both massive success and personal hardship, but he remained a symbol of resilience to fans. His voice powered a generation of hits, and his life story — imperfect, candid, and hard-won — continues to resonate long after the final encore.
