USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG-60) Sink After hit by…
The decommissioned USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG-60) was intentionally sunk during a scheduled U.S. Navy SINKEX training exercise after being struck by an AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missile. Officials confirmed the event was a controlled operation designed to test weapon performance and improve combat readiness, not a combat incident.
Commissioned in 1982, the Oliver Hazard Perry–class frigate served for more than two decades before retirement as part of fleet modernization. Prior to the exercise, the ship was cleared of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental regulations. Navy representatives say SINKEX drills provide data that simulations cannot fully replicate, helping refine future naval tactics and systems.
