About 2.4 million Americans are projected to lose SNAP benefits each month once new rules take effect. The law keeps the requirement to work at least 80 hours per month but expands it from ages 18–54 to 18–64, pulling millions more into the mandate. While exemptions remain for people with physical or mental limitations, several protections have been scaled back, including those that previously exempted parents with dependent children, significantly narrowing who qualifies for continued assistance.
