I was walking with my dog on the beach near the shoreline, and he found this. I brought it home.

What I picked up wasn’t a tooth, but a Goose barnacle—one of the Atlantic’s strangest delicacies. These crustaceans cling to wave-battered rocks, and harvesting them means risking slick cliffs and crashing swells.

In Spain and Portugal, they’re prized at the table, tied to stories of danger and skill. Holding one on a simple walk was a reminder: the extraordinary often hides in plain sight, turning an ordinary moment into something much deeper.
