12-year-old takes her life and leaves soul-crushing note behind

The loss of a child is always devastating — and at just 12 years old, it’s especially heartbreaking. Lindsey Mae Swan, a vibrant girl from Huntsville, Alabama, died by suicide on February 17, leaving behind a message her family hopes will help protect other children. Known as “Sweet Pea” or “Stitch,” Lindsey was remembered as brave and compassionate, someone who stood up for others and refused to let anyone bully her friends or siblings. A dedicated student at Mountain Gap Middle School, she was active in choir, the Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) team, and children’s theater, and loved volleyball, gymnastics, dancing, hiking, the beach, and animals. Despite her bright spirit and many talents, her family says the death of her father four years ago deeply affected her, and they now hope her story will raise awareness about recognizing warning signs and supporting struggling children.
