Researchers Investigate Substances Detected in Select Wet Pet Food Products
A recent scientific study has highlighted the possible presence of PFAS (“forever chemicals”) in some commercial pet foods. Researchers analyzed 100 popular products sold in Japan, including brands produced in the United States, Europe, Australia, and China, and found varying trace levels of these long-lasting environmental chemicals. Fish-based and some grain-based formulas occasionally showed higher concentrations, while wet foods often had lower levels per gram. Scientists note that PFAS are already widespread in the environment due to their resistance to heat, grease, and water, and more research is needed to understand their long-term effects on pets. Experts say continued monitoring and clearer safety standards will be important as studies continue to examine how these substances move through the food chain.
