Subtle symptom that led to Eric Dane’s devastating ALS diagnosis

Eric Dane has reportedly died at 53 following a battle with ALS.

After his diagnosis, the actor shared the first symptom he noticed—weakness in his right hand—which he initially brushed off. Best known as “McSteamy,” Dane revealed in 2025 that he had ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In an interview with Good Morning America, he said the early signs appeared about a year and a half before diagnosis, at first blaming the issue on too much texting or simple hand fatigue.
